25th July 2013, Bangkok - Mr. Bunn Kasemsup, Co-CEO of SCGJWD LOGISTICS Public Company Limited, along with Mr. Aree Chavalitcheewingul, President of Cement Holdings Co., Ltd., welcomed Mr. Koji Sato, President of TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION and Mr. Hiroki Nakajima, President of Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT), and their delegation. They visited the logistics and distribution operations of SCGJWD Logistics at the Central Distribution Center, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya Province, to study ways to enhance transportation and logistics capabilities to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the community. This activity is part of the MOU signed in April towards achieving Carbon Neutrality in Thailand. It was announced in a collaboration between three parties: SCG, TOYOTA, and CJPT, aiming to improve the quality of life of Thai people.
In this visit, SCGJWD and TOYOTA have jointly established a working group to study ways to develop work processes using Big Data and telecommunications infrastructure to improve transportation and logistics efficiency. This is achieved using TOYOTA's Genba Kaizen concept to help reduce the time taken to work on the shop floor, whether at distribution centers or distribution points across the country, in order to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that would be released. In addition, the System Kaizen principle is employed, using data technology to develop the TMS (Transport Management System) so that the calculation of truck utilization (Truck Utilization) becomes more efficient. This will enable the reduction in the number of transportation vehicles used, resulting in a corresponding reduction in carbon dioxide emissions as well.
This collaboration is just the starting point, where we will work together to elevate the logistics industry standards in Thailand, in order to address the global warming crisis in line with the Carbon Neutrality goal (a society with carbon neutrality) by the year 2050, and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
